Ik ben bang dat ik mijn held Christopher Hitchens op mijn Dodenlijst 2011 moet gaan zetten. Een andere held, James Randi, prijkt dit jaar op mijn lijst maar gelukkig lijkt het er op dat ik hiervoor geen punten ga scoren.
Het is moeilijk objectief over een held te schrijven, maar ik kan me nauwelijks voorstellen dat het betoog van de Hitch Bitch over zijn kanker, of ‘the blind, emotionless alien’, zoals hij het noemt, iemand ongeroerd kan laten.
Enkele weken geleden, vlak nadat hij zijn memoires optikte, kreeg hij te horen dat hij kanker heeft. De promotietour voor zijn boek heeft hij moeten onderbreken voor de chemo.
